ASSESSMENT SERVICES
Substance Abuse Assessments (SAE)/Drug Abuse Screening Test
(DAST-10 or 20)/Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI)/ Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) &(AUDIT-C)
There are multiple reasons for providing an assessment or screening. In addition to addressing multiple physical health issues, emotional and interpersonal problems that are related with substance abuse there is also a legal aspect that Paragon Salient Addiction Services feels is imperative to address as well.
These tools can decipher whether or not one should go through brief intervention or through therapy. Depending on the severity of the potential substance abuse problem dictates what assessment should be used to provide services. It is important to remember that these assessments can assist the therapist in providing services that will reduce usage and even arrest the development of addiction. The main goal of the assessment is to give the therapist a chance to know if or how their usage is putting them at risk.

Reasons for having an assessment:
Personal Life Choice
Court Ordered
Family Crisis
Enlighten and Inform
More than half of my career in Addiction Services has been devoted to providing services for persons in the criminal justice system. When one commits a crime that has substance abuse, possession of an illegal or controlled substance or alcohol consumption over the legal limit of 0.08 there are consequences that end up taking place. My experience has been that people are required to engage in counseling or educational services from a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. Due to the overwhelming amount of people that are receiving consequences sometimes persons on their first time of being punished with using substances or alcohol receive consequences that do not appear to be congruent of the charge. Paragon Salient Addiction Services primary responsibility for persons needing an assessment involved in the criminal justice system is to provide suggestions that would best fit the clients inability to manage life without using substances as well as inform clients and the court of the necessary steps to reduce the chance for a repeated action or to reduce recidivism rates and facilitate groups that would meet the requirements of the courts.
